What are barcodes?

A barcode is an optical machine-readable representation of data.  For indoor and office settings, barcodes are the most common data collection medium in the world.   Each label contains a unique printed code that acts as a “digital nametag” for any object or location you choose to attach it to.  When you purchase an Oversight Start-Up Package, we will create custom barcode labels for you with our own printers.

ROV BARCODE SCANNER

If you decide to use barcodes, you will be equipped with the ROV Scanner, a new state-of-the-art laser barcode scanner. Small, sleek, and easy-to-use, the ROV uses cutting-edge MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems)technology to make barcode scanning more reliable and durable.  With less moving parts to break, the ROV scanner lasts much longer than older types of  laser scanners.  The ROV is powered by three AAA batteries and can hold up to 4,000 barcodes at once. When it scans a barcode label, it stores both the unique “digital nametag” as well as the date and time of the scan.

Step 1:  Download to your PC

Our Oversight Client Software does this step for you automatically. It will take the data you’ve downloaded, regardless of the device, and then automatically upload it for you to our secure servers, where it will be stored in our Microsoft SQL Server database. You don’t even have to open our software or tell it to do anything; the software runs quietly in the background and performs its task automatically.
